A Student

This was an experiment, (they are all experiments), based on a photo taken by one of my sons of a young man who attended the same college. When I first saw the photo I don't remember thinking there was anything particularly interesting but something kept drawing me back to it and, as sometimes happens, I found myself zeroing in on the face.

Maybe it is the expressionless expression that made it so remarkable expressive.

Then the process began, the usual problems with flesh, the tones, the reflecting light and shadows, the subtle differences in color in different areas... I was mixing purples and pinks and oranges and sienna...

I am not sure I am happy with the end result but that is not unusual. I am trying to be a good student in this life. I am just trying to learn how to see.
